This year's social event will visit several small well-known Dutch towns: Volendam, Marken, and Edam (tentative) located north of Amsterdam.
These towns are well-known for their traditional clothing, beautiful scenery, traditional housing, and traditions featured in many works by different artists.
Volendam is a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands, well-known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents. The women's costume of Volendam, with its high, pointed bonnet, is one of the most recognizable of the Dutch traditional costumes, and is often featured on tourist postcards and posters. Volendam also features a small museum about its history and clothing style, and visitors can have their pictures taken in traditional Dutch costumes.

Marken is a peninsula in the IJsselmeer and is a well-known tourist attraction, well-known for its characteristic wooden houses. For some time during the later 19th and early 20th centuries, Marken and its inhabitants were the focus of considerable attention by folklorists, ethnographers and physical anthropologists, who regarded the small fishing town as a relic of the traditional native culture.
