Social Event on July 10, 2015: Guided Bus Tour (Approx. 6-7 hours)

Morning Pick-up ~ Place: Hotel Commonwealth / Time: 9 AM

Boston: A narrative rich in history, architecture, local culture and higher education will be offered as the coach navigates the city. The guide will lead the group around through the historic streets of Boston with stops at significant sites for exploring by foot. The North End was and still is the hub of Italian Immigration and the group will hear a bit about this as well as a visit to the Paul Revere House, Old North Church and more. They will learn of the Great Molasses Flood of 1919 & will hear about the many feasts that are still celebrated in this intimated neighborhood today.

Beacon Hill is a favorite amongst tourists, the charm of the cobblestone streets and gas lit lanterns as well as the rich political history are captivating facets of this upscale yet understated enclave.

The group will drive by the Boston Common and the Boston Public Garden and through the Back Bay neighborhood where they will hear about how this neighborhood came to be, once a bay which was turned into a glamorous and upscale neighborhood in the 1800's through the use of landfill. The European feel of this neighborhood is always a draw with its French style architecture and wide boulevards.

On to Cambridge & Harvard University: The group will enjoy the eclectic feel of Harvard Square and will see the home on Brattle Street where George and Martha Washington lived during the Revolutionary War. This is the same home where Henry Wadsworth Longfellow lived many years later. Harvard University will be a highlight for this group where participants will step off the coach to walk through Harvard Yard & learn about the Three Lies, John Harvard & some stories of famous graduates (and of course famous former students who never did graduate). A peek inside Memorial Hall at Harvard University is awe inspiring and will give participants a taste of what Harvard life is like. Impressive without being imposing, one feels as though they are in a peaceful house of worship here with stained glass, gorgeous mahogany woodwork and classic design.

Lunch: Boxed lunch will be provided as a part of the tour.

On to Concord & Lexington: In the warmer weather months the countryside towns of Concord and Lexington are in their glory. The sense of Patriotism is evident from April on when homeowners and business begin decorating for Patriots Day with Red, White & Blue buntings on white picket fences. Sites visited in the countryside will be: Minuteman National Park where the participants can enjoy a short film on the war. The Old North Bridge where the "Shots heard round the world" occurred, Walden Pond, Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and More.

The rich history of this area was a draw many years later and became a hub of arts & literature with such famous American writers as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Louisa May Alcott & Nathaniel Hawthorne.
